Garden 10

70 Margaret Reeve Lane - Janet and Gordon Cuthbert

Our journey began here 20 years ago when we first found the property and planted olive trees. Ten years ago we built the house and retired and have been planning and planting ever since. A row of pin oaks and liquid ambers screen us from the road and provide Autumn colour, with daffodils planted underneath. Hedges of griselinia, hibiscus, hornbeam and camelia sinensis (teabush) create structure and some wind protection. Hydrangea paniculata (Limelight) and yellow clivia are mass planted under an ancient pohutukawa.

Kangaroo paw, hibiscus, plumbago, sandpaper vine and self sown California poppies flourish in the gravel. Roses Sally Holmes, Wedding Day and Westerland ramble over fences. Terracotta pots and wine barrel plantings are rotated to provide colour and interest all year round. We have created a garden which works for us. There are always flowers to pick, the garden is peaceful and full of birdsong and there’s always plenty to keep us physically active.

Some delicious food and non-alcoholic beverage options will be available for a light lunch at this property.

Also sit back, relax and enjoy music from a selection of local artists during your lunch stopover here. Artworks by local artists for sale courtesy of Artisphere.
