Garden 3

12 Hauraki Road  - Robyn Toomath

Nine years ago this was steep, bare clay. We planted like crazy and now I spend all my time hacking things back. It was designed as a productive garden and in addition to vegetables I grow olives, figs, grapes, lemons, limes, mandarins, oranges, persimmons, feijoas, plums and apples - mostly for the birds. But I developed a hankering for flowers, so amongst the succulents I like to grow bright flowers on long stems - many of them gifted to me. The inspiration for my garden is Dr Seuss. If you fancy an energetic walk you can continue down my bush garden to Te Aroha Ave. Stroll down the track to Hekerua Bay, over the headland to Sandy Bay then to Enclosure Bay, up through McKenzie Reserve and over to visit the Sacred Blessing Sanctuary Garden.

Local ceramicist Penny Ericson will have her work on sale in the garden.
