Garden 9
Alison and Paul Dyson
57-59 Cory Road, Palm Beach
Alison and Paul have owned this 9.5-acre property for over 12 years. The heart of the garden and the owners’ abiding passion is the impressive regeneration of the native forest that tumbles down to Palm Beach. It is a huge undertaking and one well worth the visit. However, Alison and Paul have also created ‘home gardens’ with diverse plants and flowers that thrive on the island. The ’crown jewel’ is the vegetable garden where a steep, unusable north-facing site has been transformed into a terraced and productive garden. Raised beds are built of Corten steel and shaded with herb hedges protecting the garden from the strong summer sun. It is a delightful and effective use of the space resulting in abundant crops at the same time offering an attractive sculptural quality. There is a roughly formed loop bush walking track accessible for more adventurous visitors.
The work of well-known Waiheke artist Zoe Leeb du Toit will be on sale at this garden with a percentage of proceeds being generously donated to the Jassy Dean Trust.
