Garden 7
Sandra and Peter Turley-Miller
375 Waiheke Road, Onetangi
Large sections of regenerated forest share space with spectacular rural views, border gardens, broad lawns and twisted flower-edged paths in a garden full of colour and variety.
The 6 ½ hectare property, purchased in 1971 was originally part of the Pie Melon Bay Farm. Over the past 50 years much of the land has reverted naturally to regenerating bush. Sandra and Peter have actively encouraged this process by planting multiple kauri, rimu and other natives throughout the forest. They are currently reforesting the gully and a walk up their driveway offers excellent ‘close up’ contact with this fabulous work they continue to undertake.
Six and a half years ago they moved to live permanently on the island and set about establishing new vegetable and flower gardens. They both love flowers and experimenting with new plants and claim the garden is a ‘bit of an eclectic mix’.
Internationally acclaimed botanical artist, Sue Wickison, will have merchandise on display with a percentage of sales generously donated to the Jassy Dean Trust.
