Waiheke Garden Safari has been delighting since 2001 and this is our 20th Anniversary year. This is a must-see, self-drive or cycle garden tour event and each year we expand the workshops that are on offer. Waiheke Garden Festival takes place over two days: 7 & 8 November 2020. We are sponsored by Fullers who also offer tour packages for the Festival.

Ticket buyers get exclusive access to some of Waiheke Island's most interesting gardens while also supporting the Jassy Dean Trust. The Trust has been supporting Waiheke families with sick children for the last 25 years.

In the event Auckland reverts back to, or is in, Covid-19 Alert Level 3 or 4 at the time of the Waiheke Garden Festival, the event will be cancelled and refunds may be sought from your point of purchase. If you choose to forfeit a refund and donate the ticket price to the Jassy Dean Trust, thank you for your donation.

Ngaio's Massive Plant Sale

403 Seaview Road
Saturday and Sunday 9 am - 12pm

Ngaio Lewis is one of our long time plant growers. She supplies many of our garden owners and is a valued supporter of the Jassy Dean Trust. Ngaio and her team of volunteers will be selling plants from her garden on Seaview Road.

40 Motukaha Road, Church Road

Our 200 m² country style garden surrounded by lavender is a collaborative effort with the Oyster Inn team in managing a ‘garden to table’ initiative to harvest and supply organic foods and herbs for their restaurant.

Garden 2

Mudbrick Vineyard 126 Church Bay Road

The Mudbrick Gardens have been a labour of love for 28 years and counting. There have been many experiments that have both worked and failed along the years at Mudbrick. We have created an Italian/French vibe for the property aligning with the soils. Olives, lavender, rosemary and geraniums tend to grow close to grapes the world over. We crop flowers for our accommodation houses, to provide beautiful arrangements.

55 Great Barrier Road, Enclosure Bay

This is a cliff top coastal garden with an eclectic mix of flowering and native plants. Intimate courtyard spaces, a potager garden and a garden walkway all on a beautiful but exposed site, are features that make this garden interesting.

Garden 4

36 Cory Road

Raised beds and fruit trees from cuttings from our late parents of figs, guava, paw paw, rose cuttings and orchids have created a peaceful, private haven.

Garden 5

8 Hillside Road, Surfdale

Gerda and Kim's garden is eclectic and the design has evolved over the last 15 years. The garden feeds us with fruit trees and vegetables and delights us with flowers. Long term commitment to composting and the help of our chicken has created much-improved soil conditions. We try to recycle as much as possible and turn pallets or old timber into fences or other garden structures.

14 Natzka Road, Ostend

Our garden is in its development phase being only eighteen months old. After our first winter we realised drainage was a priority so with the Gecko Landscape team the section was cleared, drainage completed and within a few months a garden started to develop. We wanted no lawn, low maintenance plants, vege gardens, plants to attract birds, bees and butterflies. Our planting is a mixture of natives, cuttings from previous gardens, palms and a colourful eclectic mix of whatever takes out fancy.

25C Calais Terrace, Ostend

A garden is never finished. Three years into what, I think, is a ten-year project, my garden’s shape is becoming clear. What was a weed-infested steep hillside is developing into a uniquely Waiheke garden that takes its inspiration from the surrounding landscape, and combines bold simple lines and complex planting. Sweeping beds of shrubs, perennials, grasses and roses surround a contemporary house.

309 Seaview Road, Onetangi

A contemporary garden which has a good sense of fun and interest throughout. It has been landscaped to feature sculptures and quirky ceramic art e.g., a unique teapot tree.

31 Valley Road, Rocky Bay

Our gently sloping and easily accessible half acre garden has been a labour of love and work in progress for more than twenty years. It is now a mature sub-tropical garden set around uncluttered lawns.

32 Wairua Road, Rocky Bay

After 10 years of growing plants for the Jassy Dean Trust Plant Sale, we decided that it was time to do some work on our rather large, bedraggled looking garden, so the last two years have seen retaining walls go up, new vege gardens and paths.

Learn how to successfully grow in Waiheke’s clay soil with Grow Inspired

During this 60 minute workshop, Grow Inspired’s founder and expert, Claire Mummery will share her tips and tricks for growing in Waiheke’s notorious clay soils. With 16 years’ experience on the island, Claire will teach you how to:

• Work with your clay soil to grow food and flowers

• Build on the clay soil and plant in it

• Convert clay into nourishing, fertile soil using Bokashi

Garden Design in a Waiheke Setting with Lyndell Shannon

Saturday 1pm,
Garden 7, 25C Calais Terrace

Garden Designer Lyndell Shannon hosts this workshop in her own garden to discuss how she worked with the character of the site, the broader landscape and the light to choose plants and materials. She will focus on designing for a large challenging site and managing a long-term project, while allowing for chance events and new ideas that come along.

Tendril Foraged with Roz Sainsbury

Long time Waiheke florist, Roz Sainsbury of Tendril, draws her floral inspiration from the colours, textures, seasons and untamed places of the Island. Collecting and foraging her materials to create wild and whimsical, nature grounded, floral installations.

Keep rats out of your compost with Te Korowai o Waiheke

Sunday 1pm
Garden 9, 31 Valley Road, Rocky Bay

Join Te Korowai o Waiheke and WRT to learn more about keeping rats out of your property and compost. The discussion will cover environmental factors that contribute to rats deciding to call your place home and some tips and tricks to keep pesky rodents out of your compost bins.

WRT will give an overview of traditional and Bokashi composting for keeping food waste out of your rubbish bin and will help you build nutrient rich soils for your gardens. Participants will be eligible for a discounted composting system from the Waiheke Sustainability Centre.
