Garden 7
25C Calais Terrace, Ostend
Lyndell Shannon
A garden is never finished. Three years into what, I think, is a ten-year project, my garden’s shape is becoming clear. What was a weed-infested steep hillside is developing into a uniquely Waiheke garden that takes its inspiration from the surrounding landscape, and combines bold simple lines and complex planting. Sweeping beds of shrubs, perennials, grasses and roses surround a contemporary house. The garden incorporates chunky stone walls and curving paths. A boardwalk/pier that sits twenty-four metres above the estuary at the bottom of the garden may come in handy someday.
